Summary

Bienvenidos a Chapel Croft。

I thought this was a very interesting book with lots of surprises throughout。 I read it straight through。

Really enjoyed this one。 Similar to her others。 At first I thought this would kind of end as a cliché murder mystery and was a little disappointed, but things happen! Really fun, easy book to get caught up in。

I'm baffled by all of the high ratings。 The Burning Gils was a mess, especially by the end。 Also, wtf at the use of ye olde stereotypes re Black women, mental health, disability, sans any kind of nuance or prodding at them on Tudor's part。 Rather doubt I'll be reading more from Tudor again。 I'm baffled by all of the high ratings。 The Burning Gils was a mess, especially by the end。 Also, wtf at the use of ye olde stereotypes re Black women, mental health, disability, sans any kind of nuance or prodding at them on Tudor's part。 Rather doubt I'll be reading more from Tudor again。 。。。more

A missed opportunity。。A slow starter。 2 POV。 The vicar, Jack and her daughter, Flow。 But how I wish we know who we read at the beginning of the chapter instead of reading halfway and figured out ‘ Oh。。I am Flo or Jack’ sheesh。。so it was already annoying to me。。I think the writing is a bit messy and uncleaned。The way Wrigley was introduced was a bit rush to me and suddenly he was into Flo? And tried to make like a special romantic dinner date? Urgh。。it just not working for me。。And no backstory on A missed opportunity。。A slow starter。 2 POV。 The vicar, Jack and her daughter, Flow。 But how I wish we know who we read at the beginning of the chapter instead of reading halfway and figured out ‘ Oh。。I am Flo or Jack’ sheesh。。so it was already annoying to me。。I think the writing is a bit messy and uncleaned。The way Wrigley was introduced was a bit rush to me and suddenly he was into Flo? Meh。 Based on the description (not to mention the title) I figured I would be getting a supernatural thriller/horror。 Instead there were about 2 pages worth of 'supernatural' and no real horror to speak of。 The ending seemed very predictable (The person doing things away from the action of the book shows up at the last minute?! Who saw that coming?!)。 I guess I was expecting a different book and was not overly impressed with what I got in the end。 Meh。 Based on the description (not to mention the title) I figured I would be getting a supernatural thriller/horror。 Instead there were about 2 pages worth of 'supernatural' and no real horror to speak of。 The ending seemed very predictable (The person doing things away from the action of the book shows up at the last minute?! 4。35 stars This book is VERY British which I like very much。 C。 J。 Tudor writes with a very strong British influence and language; lovely。 Trying to sleep after reading the first 90 pages had me hoping the Burning Girls did not materialize in my bedroom。 I found the story creepy and suspenseful。 I love a good ghost story especially when it is in an urban British countryside setting with lots of old buildings with histories of hauntings。 Although this is a very well written page turner, it turned 4。35 stars This book is VERY British which I like very much。 C。 J。 Tudor writes with a very strong British influence and language; lovely。 Trying to sleep after reading the first 90 pages had me hoping the Burning Girls did not materialize in my bedroom。 I found the story creepy and suspenseful。 I love a good ghost story especially when it is in an urban British countryside setting with lots of old buildings with histories of hauntings。 Although this is a very well written page turner, it turned out to be more of a murder mystery rather than a ghost story。 This is my first C。 J。 Tudor book and will not be my last。 。。。more

I listened to this on audio and almost quit many times。 I just didn't like the characters and I felt like it dragged。 In the end, I'm glad I finished it。 It was probably more like a 3。5 star book based how the "mysteries" wrapped up。 The very end was stupid to me。 I listened to this on audio and almost quit many times。 I just didn't like the characters and I felt like it dragged。 In the end, I'm glad I finished it。 It was probably more like a 3。5 star book based how the "mysteries" wrapped up。 The very end was stupid to me。 。。。more

I was totally set to give this a full five stars but part of the ending REALLY dragged this down for me。This was a SUPER engaging read -- I did not want to stop at any point -- although at times I think there were just a couple too many threads running all at once so some things got lost。 (view spoiler)[Mostly I was annoyed by the revelation that Jack was Merry, because I feel like that could've been hinted at way better。 Not just the whole traumatic childhood thing, but there was no indication I was totally set to give this a full five stars but part of the ending REALLY dragged this down for me。This was a SUPER engaging read -- I did not want to stop at any point -- although at times I think there were just a couple too many threads running all at once so some things got lost。 (view spoiler)[Mostly I was annoyed by the revelation that Jack was Merry, because I feel like that could've been hinted at way better。 Not just the whole traumatic childhood thing, but there was no indication throughout the narrative anyone recognized her, that she recognized the town, that there were things here that felt familiar。。。 that really could've been handled way better。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

The Burning Girls is an eerie, dark, tangle of thrills。 I did not want to put this book down。 The atmosphere was so vivid, I felt like I was watching an A24 film or a show like Bly Manor or Hill House。 Though this story has many twists and turns, it had many threads throughout it that allowed me to slowly weave all the mysterious bits and pieces together。 The "plot twist" (if it can even be called that) was executed so well; the truth of the various mysteries was shown in snippets and tangled th The Burning Girls is an eerie, dark, tangle of thrills。 I did not want to put this book down。 The atmosphere was so vivid, I felt like I was watching an A24 film or a show like Bly Manor or Hill House。 Though this story has many twists and turns, it had many threads throughout it that allowed me to slowly weave all the mysterious bits and pieces together。 The "plot twist" (if it can even be called that) was executed so well; the truth of the various mysteries was shown in snippets and tangled threads throughout, in a way easing the reader into an understanding of what happened while still keeping me on my toes, which I quite enjoyed。 I didn't have to act surprised at a big twist because Tudor really guides the reader into what happened by first giving hints and then verifying what's true。For a moment I thought the ending was going to disappoint me, but it all came together so gracefully I was immediately able to disregard what bothered me。 Despite everything that happened, there was a moment that felt a bit too far fetched and I had to suspend my belief, but upon further reading I realized it did really fit into the nearly unbelievable chaos of this book (and I also accepted that this is fiction and anything is possible)。(view spoiler)[ If you're curious, it was Wrigley's plot that bothered me。 I found it hard to believe this town had housed so many twisted teenagers through the years (Jacob being the other and honestly Rosie too), yet I was completely unfazed every time a burning girl apparition was seen。。。 but as the scene in the church passed I got over it。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Tudor is becoming one of my favorite authors! This is one of my favorite reads of the year thus far and perfect for fans of Coraline and The Exorcist。 I couldn’t put this down!!!!

The Burning Girls had a concept that I loved so much but the ending fell a bit flat for me。 There was just to many things happening and a couple of loose ends that never got resolved。 I also was expecting this to be more of a horror book, and while it sits on the line of horror and mystery, I would say it definitely fits much better in the mystery category。

Not a bad read。 I was hooked by the premise and the early chapters were great。 But for some reason, the closer I got to the end, the more disappointed I became。 The premise was way better than the actual exectution, in my opinion。 Maybe it's because after some point the story slowly began to divert from the kind of plot and elements I was expecting。The resolution, though not utterly bad, came up a bit short for me。But still, overall, I was entertained。 Not a bad read。 I was hooked by the premise and the early chapters were great。 But for some reason, the closer I got to the end, the more disappointed I became。 The premise was way better than the actual exectution, in my opinion。 Maybe it's because after some point the story slowly began to divert from the kind of plot and elements I was expecting。The resolution, though not utterly bad, came up a bit short for me。But still, overall, I was entertained。 。。。more

Rounded down from roughly 4。5 stars ⭐️ The burning girls follows a vicar and their daughter, Flo, as they move to a new village。 But there’s something dark and unusual going on here。 The village is stuck in the past and has many secrets it is trying to protect。 Are Jack and Flo safe here?Wow, what a whirlwind of a book this one is! I also feel that the epilogue didn’t quite give the punchy finish I was craving。That being said, I absolutely adored the atmosphere in this book。 It reminded me of a wicker man/high school bully mash up! I almost felt like I was in a horror film that also involved a teenage high school。 This book does touch on some very dark issues so please be cautious of possible triggers if you want to pick it up。 I was almost left wanting more, I want to return to some of the characters and explore their lives and relationships more。 The first thing I did when I put this book down was try to get my hands on all of CJ Tudor books!I would recommend this book to any thriller fans! Predictable in parts and a slow burner initially, in my opinion, this book ticked the boxes of a mystery-thriller。 It was pretty good once it got going, loved the history of the small village and the religious element too, needed a little more shock factor。Guessed the main twist about 60% through, if you read it, you may too。Overall, a great read but didn't wow me! The inclusion of the guy's POV chapters really took me out of the book。 I didn't like the final twist regarding the MC。 There were some creepy moments and, for the most part, it was a quick and enjoyable ride, but there was nothing special in here to push my rating higher。 The inclusion of the guy's POV chapters really took me out of the book。 I didn't like the final twist regarding the MC。 There were some creepy moments and, for the most part, it was a quick and enjoyable ride, but there was nothing special in here to push my rating higher。 。。。more
